The priority access ticket is an absolute must. We were in the museum within 30 minutes, where the line for those with or without advanced, skip the line, tickets took two hours. Get to the line early, though. As expected, the museum was amazing.
There are huge number of exhibits in the Louvre with lot of variety from paintings, statues, trinkets etc. We did not carry an id so couldn't get audio guide from the museum. Lot of tours offer audioguides and skip the line tickets which are good options if you are short on time.
I've been to more museum than I can count, across 13 different countries and 3 continents, and I have yet to find a museum that has more to offer than the Louvre. I've been three times, never stayed LESS than four hours, and still find something new and exciting every time. The Louvre has everything. Paintings, yes. More than you could see in a lifetime. But that's just the start. There are ancient artefacts. Egyptian tombs and a mummy. Crown jewels. Napoleon's apartments, that could rival Versailles. Medieval fortress walls. Jewellery, sculptures, architecture, tapestries, sketches, furniture. I have a particular soft spot for the reconstructed Egyptian temple. I could go on... Plus, there are plenty of cafes, many of which have a gorgeous view of the glass pyramid entrance, and some are more affordable than you'd expect. For those after a more luxurious experience, the renowned Angelina tea house has a restaurant near the Napoleon apartments. Finally, some practical points. Book ahead for a time slot, or get the Paris Museum Pass. The queue can be quite daunting otherwise. I'd say the audio guide is worth getting, although there is a free app, too. Plus, the museum is fully accessible, offering free wheelchair hire for those that need it. Honestly, the Mona Lisa is the least exciting thing about this museum.
